ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER (Sign On-Sign Off)

  Hello Again...

Wisconsin, Life’s So Good! That’s the new Wisconsin tourism slogan and the message conveyed in a new theme song featured in Wisconsin TV spots. Of course you’ll get no argument from most people who live here, and the millions of outstate guests keep coming back too.

A study done several years ago showed that once you get an out of state visitor to come and spend a day or two in Wisconsin, they’re likely to come back about 8 times in the next 3-5 years. And if you get to the bottom of it, it’s clear that they agree: Life IS good here.

So to get some of that “good life” for yourself, be sure to check the listings of free things at the bottom of the newsletter. “Free” and “New” are words you’ll see often in the listings this week. I just returned from the 2005 Governor’s Tourism Conference and over the next few weeks will pass along the contact information for a batch of new and free 2005 getaway guides. They can be a big help in planning vacations and all of them are loaded with tidbits of trivia and I-didn’t-know-that facts you can toss out at the next party.

NOW DON’T FORGET THIS ADVICE: I suggest you ALWAYS PHONE AHEAD BEFORE YOU GO. Reservations are a must if space is limited ...and often required. Don't assume anything! Event organizers change plans, times change, classes fill, and lots of things can conspire to get you to somewhere only to find something was canceled. Or everything. So if the event is important to the trip...--Call in advance.

Ok see you soon!

Mar 12 - Jun 5 Madison/Don Reitz: Clay, Fire, Salt and Wood: Born in 1929, Don Reitz is recognized as one of the most important and influential ceramic artists of this century. He has pursued a life-long investigation of salt and wood firing of his ceramic pieces in order to preserve the energy and freshness of his artistic marks and gestures. Finding that the texture and unpredictability of salt-firing suited his work, Reitz almost single-handedly revived this neglected technique, and through long experimentation developed a range of colors and surface effects previously unknown in salt-firing. Juggling and manipulating the variables in each firing, Reitz is a virtuoso who relishes knowing what he can control and what he cannot, and his work maintains a fine balance between technical mastery and improvisation.
